The Delta Toronto at Southcore Financial Centre will be Delta Hotels’ flagship hotel in downtown Toronto. Slated to open in late 2014, the hotel is connected to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Air Canada Centre, Union Station through the Path System. We are also strategically located near the CN Tower, Skydome , new Ripley’s Aquarium and the Island Airport.  The hotel will offer 567 oversized guestrooms with spectacular views including 16 luxurious extended stay suites geared for longer term stays. Event Planners will have access to 17,000 square feet of technologically advanced meeting and conference facilities, as well as a 6,000 square foot ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows. A 4,000 square foot terrace will also be available offering a premier outdoor event space with panoramic views. Extensive health club facilities, including gym, yoga studio, steam room, whirl pool and indoor pool, will cater to guests’ health and wellness. Contemporary dining will be available in the 230-seat restaurant on the ground floor with Bremner Street access including an 80-seat outdoor patio and bar.  High-speed wireless capability will be available from top to bottom.

General Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced and highly engaged hotel sales professional to lead the pre-opening sales team for Delta’s new and exciting flagship hotel in Toronto. The individual will play a leading role in setting the platform for exceptional revenue generation and customer experience in our world class property. The individual will also be a significant contributor to the repositioning of our Delta brand by leading through example utilizing best in class sales and marketing strategies.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Director of Sales and Marketing is accountable for generating budgeted revenue through development implementation of a sales and marketing strategy, and effective management of the team members in the department. The Director of Sales & Marketing is a strong communicator, keeping all departments and team members informed at all times.

  • As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Sales & Marketing develops and implements a sales and marketing plan, creating strategies and direction for the Sales and Conference Services Department

  • Provides leadership by building commitment, developing and inspiring a strong, motivated, competent and cohesive team while ensuring a positive working environment

  • Develops and recommends short and long term goals for the department and implements programs and strategies to meet them

  •  Actively reviews bookings made by Sales Team with Director of Revenue and provides feedback to ensure maximum revenues are achieved

  • Monitors and researches the competition’s offerings

  • Prepares long term forecasts and monthly forecasts for the Sales Department and Conference Services

  • Develops, recommends and implements room rate policies and special packages in conjunction with the Director of Revenue

  • Prepares, recommends and implements a departmental budget, monitoring progress throughout the year

  • Co-ordinates sales activities, monitoring travel plans and sales trips and supervises the production and distribution of literature and collateral

  • Oversees the Hotel’s Electronic Commerce and Social Media Plan

  • Participates in the design and development of advertising programs

  • Actively participates in revenue management reviews and implementation of yield programs

  • Evaluates and monitors market trends, recommending directions for the Hotel to follow

  • Conducts regular team meetings to assess performance, operational issues, etc.

  • Liase with Delta Corporate Office and Team Members in fulfilling public relations needs of the property


  • Supervises the team members of the department, recruiting new employees, carrying out timely performance appraisals, directing the training and development of the team members, and carrying out disciplinary action

  •  Responsible for setting and assisting the team members of the department in setting individual segment goals and objectives

  •  Overseeing and providing guidance and direction in identifying opportunities and development of individual segment action plans,

  • Assists the team members of the department in setting individual goals and objectives

  • Trains, counsels and evaluates the performance of Sales team members, emphasizing skill of leading clients to design functions that meet Hotel requirements

  • Oversees the production and preparation on Sales and statistical reports, and the maintenance of record keeping systems


  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior hotel sales role

  • First Time Director of Sales will not be considered for this property

  • Solicits, develops and negotiates bookings through sales calls, market places, Trade Shows, promotions, lead follow ups, mail and telephone contacts

  • Entertain clients in the hotel and other industry related functions

  • Assists Sales team members in developing new accounts and in the closing of business

  • Liase with National Sales Office in a variety of sales matters and participates in co-operative marketing and special programs

  • Prepares monthly and weekly reports illustrating sales and market mix statistics, and takes action based on market conditions as required


  • As a member of the Leadership Team, provides a leadership role in blending the efforts of the Sales Department and Conference Services  with “big picture” hotel objectives

  • Acts as a Delta Hotels ambassador within the local community, providing a positive image of Delta Hotels, and promotes/enhances the profile of the hotel by taking an active role in community/professional associations

  • Is flexible for hours and days of work to accommodate our guest’s needs, as required




  • Five to seven years of sales and marketing leadership in similar sized operation preferred

  • Solid track record of success in leading a hotel sales and marketing team

  • Solid track record of success in developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies within a hotel or hospitality venue

  • Pre-Opening and International experience would be an asset


  • Undergraduate degree or certificate in sales, marketing, commerce or related industry experience is required

  • Bilingual or multilingual ability preferred

Interpersonal Skills

This position requires a highly motivated, energetic and hands-on professional with exceptionally strong leadership and collaboration skills who can guide and motivate employees as well as consult and influence internal and external clients and collaborate with cross functional teams. The DOSM must have strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of executives, managers and subject matter experts. Key interpersonal skills required include listening, advocating, negotiating and communicating straightforward and complex information. The position requires professional level interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively with stakeholders from different origins and cultures.
